Basin Electric Power Cooperative
Basin Electric Power Cooperatives asked us to assist them in addressing the issue of climate change. At the time, pending legislation sought to address the issue in ways that would have had a negative economic impact on families and businesses by raising the costs of electricity. We developed a campaign to "find a balanced solution." The campaign focuses on finding a sensible solution to climate change that addresses the issue without having a negative economic effect. We developed a website that provided information on the issue and the pending legislation, and encouraged site visitors to take action by contacting their congressional representatives.
We also developed print ads and radio ads to run in Montana, North and South Dakota and Minnesota. The ads all drove target audiences to the website to find out more and to take action. During the timeframe the ads ran, traffic at the web site shot up 900 percent. The site had all the information visitors needed to contact the congressmen from their states. The legislation failed to receive sufficient votes and has since been taken off the table. Basin continues to use the website as a communications center to provide information on smart choices that are good for the environment and the economy. The site can also be used as a springboard for a call to action for pending legislation in the future.
