Director of Strategic Engagement

Odney is seeking a director of strategic engagement to lead the full-service agency’s public relations and social media team. This person will work with clients and our team of research, creative, digital, media, social media and public relations experts in a results-driven environment, as well as serve on the agency’s management team. The position will be based in our Bismarck office, and offers an excellent salary and benefits package.

Job Description:
  • Consult clients and account staff on earned and social media strategies, using best practices.
  • Manage staff and work flow of three public relations specialists.
  • Participate in and contribute to client and staff meetings.
  • Develop research-based earned and social media messaging and effectively implement that messaging in all chosen earned media channels.
  • Execute earned and social media plans with approval from client and assigned account staff.
  • Analyze existing earned and social media efforts of clients in order to make recommendations for enhancements. 
  • Write news releases, pitches, talking points, crisis communication plans and marketing plans.
  • Make media calls to pitch ideas and encourage coverage.
  • Coordinate news conferences, editorial board visits and public relations events.
  • Develop organic social media plans for clients based on strategic goals and best practices.
  • Create paid social media proposals based on existing client requests or potential client requests for proposal.
  • Develop and place paid social media advertising, including creative elements and ad copy.
  • Provide tracking and measurement metrics for assigned earned and social media campaigns.
  • Analyze results of all efforts related to earned and social media efforts for clients. 
  • Build relationships with key media contacts.
  • Proof and copy edit assigned documents.
  • Oversee the writing of all agency proposals.
  • Continually pursue personal growth in industry knowledge and trends.
  • Provide updates and progress reports to the president and assigned account staff.
  • Manage vendor relationships for earned and social media monitoring and placement.
  • Position may require travel.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience managing personnel and projects
  • Background in public relations or marketing
  • Well-versed in public relations and social media best practices
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Detail-oriented and ability to meet deadlines
  • Capable of multi-tasking, prioritizing and managing time efficiently
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Communications, advertising or public relations degree
